<title>Progress update</title>
<link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Monday 21st March 2005 ( 08:45:24 AM ) Well almost 2 moths have past and 3 competitions during which i have made some personal developments. The most important one is that I switched back to bi-fins (C4-30) for Dynamics, which suits me more. This move has been very succesfull in that at each competition I improved my personal best to now a 112 Meters at the last competition in Paris (after beeing very ill for 1 week).
I feel that this progress will rapidly continue.....
This , combined with a good static of 6:06 also gave me a 3rd place at the Berlin Masters Cup in february.
Finally I start to like dynamics ;-)</description>

<title>Tom Sietas set a new German record in DYN </title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Sunday 19th December 2004 ( 02:16:22 PM )
Today at 1230h local time in Hamburg, Tom Sietas set a new German record in dynamic with fins. He did an incredible 215m (actually 215.9) dive in 3'19'' in a 25m pool and surfaced very clean, a PB for him. He used C4 Falcon 40 bi-fins and the same wetsuit and weights, like yesterday.

He got one white card and one yellow card on his performance. One of the judges thought that he hadn't got his heels properly on the wall at the 100m turn. So a 10m penalty (5 points) remains until the judges make a final decision after video analysis. There were spectators who claimed that he did the turn right, and Tom himself said that he didn't feel anything wrong at any turn. Even if he didn't get his heels properly on the wall once, we should keep in mind that it's rather a disadvantage than a benefit because it only decreases the impulse on the push off, but rules are rules.

<title>Tom Sietas set a new German record in DNF </title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Sunday 19th December 2004 ( 02:15:08 PM )
Today at 1250h local time in Hamburg, Tom Sietas set a new German record in dynamic without fins.

Old record: 112m by Wolfram Neugebauer
New record: 175m by Tom Sietas in 3'33'' in a 25m pool

He surfaced really fresh and clean. It seemed to be a walk in the park for him. He used a 3mm Elios smoothskin wetsuit and 10kg weight to be perfectly ballanced. His preparation was pretty much the same he uses for static: A 12 minute breathe up routine that includes a full packing 4 minutes before top. It took him 3 armstrokes each 25m.

Tomorrow he's going for the dynamic with fins record which is currently his at 186m.

<title>New WR by Carlos Coste</title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Thursday 28th October 2004 ( 04:54:50 AM )
Oct.27.04, Puerta La Cruz, Venezuela - At 11:25am Carlos Coste descended to 135 meters by sled and returned under his own power in 4:36. The dive was clean at the surface and the athlete gave the OK signal within 20 seconds of surfacing.
Video documentation on the sled, bottom plate and surface are all in order. A second official surface camera was also used but did not capture the inital descent due to camera malfunction.

The doping test was taken at 14:10pm and the attending judges have indicated that they will be recommending the attempt for final ratification.

<title>Carlos Coste new WR depth</title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Monday 25th October 2004 ( 06:28:53 AM )
From Deeperblue:
Venezuela, October 23, 2004 -At approximately 12:15 pm Oct 23, Carlos Coste achieved 136 meters in Variable Ballast, riding a weighted sled into the depths of the Carribean sea and returning to the surface under his own power in 4:08 seconds.

The performance was clean and beat the current record of 120 meters handily however unfortunately both of the offical surface cameras did not document the dive sufficiently for ratification. As a result the dive will not count as a world record.

Carlos will reattempt the world record Wednesday

<title>Tom Sietas does 9'24'' static for fun</title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Thursday 12th August 2004 ( 11:24:29 PM )
Yesterday at the AIDA worldcup after the official static competition, Tom Sietas did a world record attempt and comfortably did an inhuman 9'24'', breaking his own world record. He then was disqualified because all his teammates embraced him. Later it turned out this was intentionally, since he already has arranged sponsorship for an official record attempt event later this year. Funny guy ;-)

Today the German team proved superior over all teams by doing 3 superb statics of 7'10'', 6'38'' and 6'33''. Together with their CW dives of 70m, 64m and 64m this confirmed their clear and predicted victory. The team consists of Tom Sietas (current WR holder statics), Hubert Maier and Dominique Ventzke

<title>Belgium Cup part 2</title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Sunday 01st August 2004 ( 11:57:43 PM )
Today myself and 3 Dutch team mates attended the 2nd part of the Belgium Cup 2004. This involved a free immersion competition and a optional constant weight dive in La Roche Fontaine. We all set new personal bests. Kars van Kouwen set a new Dutch National Record CW of 42 meters and Caroline Berghuis set a vacant FI national record at 27 meters (both pending approval). Roland van den Akker overcame his longlasting equalisation problems by finishing with a nice 35 meters CW .
I did a 35 meters FI and a 36 meters CW, both new PB's. So a very succesfull day for all of us, with lots of thanks to our Belgium friends for making this possible.

On the 6th of July , Pierre Frolla from Monaco did a beautifull Variable Balast dive in Nice to 123 meter in 3:04. Unfortunately he was not in time to get it registered as a new world record by AIDA, but AIDA France stepped in to make it an official French national record (deeper then the current world record !!!)

<title>Gold medal on Swiss Open</title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Monday 17th May 2004 ( 12:55:24 PM )
Saturday we competed in the 5th Open Swiss Indoor freedive championship. For the first time I managed to do a good static in a competition. My hart rate was still much higher then normal, but I managed to do a 5min58 and this was good for the gold medal. Dynamics with fins I aborted due to stomach cramps and dynamics without fins (first time in competition and never did more the 25meter in training due to lack of interest) I did an ok 62 meters (without pushing it).
I found a new interest in this discipline, whereby the general feeling comes much closer to static then my current monofin swim.
Patricia aborted her static after a mistimed preparation en general feeling of "not today", but did a nice 50 meter dynamics with fin after being stuck with her mono in the start line and struggling under water for at least 10 second. Most people would give up after this, but she showed character. Was surprisingly good for silver because most of the competition went into LMC.

<title>New Dutch National Record Static Apnea</title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Friday 14th May 2004 ( 09:50:15 AM )
On Thursday evening it happened.... My Dutch National record static apnea of 6:03 was broken by a fellow freediver Peter Wurschy who, together with Pieter Buis, had organised this record event in our favourite static training pool in Haarlem. Pieter, who was first to have a go at it unfortunately had a heavy samba at around 6:15 and was pulled out by the safety diver. Further attempts stayed without success. Peter on the other hand did a very clean and tactical 6:08 on his first attempt followed by a very good (but close) 6:16. A well-deserved new record I must admit. But then again, records are there to be broken.................

<title>Results Belgium Cup part1</title><link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Monday 26th April 2004 ( 09:37:51 AM )
Sunday 25 feb, Patricia myself and 8 other Dutch freedivers attended the indoor freediving competition in Huy Belgium. Strong varing results among the Dutch delegation. Myself, I aborted my static at 4 minutes, caused by a changed and mistimed breathup combined with lack of wilpower to fight, but had a new PB at dynamics with mono of 94 meter. This also after a modified warmup routine. Patricia had her first samba at static and it was a beauty ;-) Kars van Kouwen unfortunately blacked out at an attempt to break the Dutch national record dynamic no fins at 100 meters but won the static comp with a nice 5'58''. Highlight was the battle of the titans, between Renate de Bruyn (Dutch current world record holder dynamic no fins at 100 meters) and Yamina Enedahl-Mekki (Swedisch former record holder). Yamina could not break Renates world record followed by Renate resetting it to a massive 104 meters.

<title>21 march 2004 Mandy new worldrecord CW</title>
<link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Monday 22nd March 2004 ( 11:05:12 AM )Mandy-Rae Cruickshank obliterated Tanya Streeters old Constant Weight record of -70M by a whopping 8 meters setting it at -78M. Acording to AIDA regulations she can try 2 more times with max 3 meters increment , so she could potentialy set it at -84M this week. We will see....
Martin unfortunately failed at his first -100M CW attempt. Going up he switched at -30M to free immersion style when he did not feel good anymore. He did not black out or samba, but of course the attempt was not valid. He will try again this week.

<title>More clarity in Mifsud case</title>
<link>http://www.glennvenghaus.com/freediving/index.php?Location=3</link>
<description>Sunday 21st March 2004 ( 12:35:01 PM )
Turns out that Stephane did NOT give an OK sign within 20 seconds as stated by the AIDA rules. Procedural mistakes on the side of the official on-site judges, combined with failure to provide the required video material on time, made way for the events and speculations as they unfolded in the last days.
Of course this does not take away anything of the amazing result achieved by this great athlete. Martin Stephanek will have a tough time beating this........
